Allsång på Skansen (which means Sing-along at Skansen) is a super popular Swedish TV show. It happens every summer on Tuesdays at Skansen in Stockholm. Skansen is a famous open-air museum and zoo.
During the show, everyone in the audience gets to sing along to well-known Swedish and international songs. Famous musical guest stars perform on stage. The show started way back in 1935. Back then, only about 50 people came to watch. Today, it's a huge event! Between 10,000 and 25,500 people come to each performance.
The show has been on Sveriges Television (SVT) since August 3, 1979. When it first started on TV, about 300,000 people watched. But when Lasse Berghagen became the host, the number of viewers jumped to about 2 million!
Allsång på Skansen was also a pioneer in TV technology. In 2003, it was the first SVT show to be broadcast with special 5.1 multichannel sound. This made the sound much richer. In 2007, it was one of the first live Swedish shows broadcast in high-definition television. This meant the picture was super clear. The show runs for 90 minutes, but only one hour is shown on SVT1.
