Måns Zelmerlöw (born 13 June 1986) is a famous Swedish singer and TV host. He first became known in 2005 on the show Idol 2005. He later won the first season of Let's Dance in 2006.

Måns had a big hit song in 2007 called "Cara Mia". This song was his entry in the Melodifestivalen 2007 contest. He also hosted the popular show Allsång på Skansen from 2011 to 2013.

He competed in Melodifestivalen several times. In Melodifestivalen 2015, he won with his song "Heroes". This win meant he got to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, which he also won! He recently competed in Melodifestivalen 2025, finishing in second place.

Early Life and School

Måns Zelmerlöw was born in Lund, a city in southern Sweden. His mother, Birgitta Sahlén, is a professor, and his father, Sven-Olof Zelmerlöw, is a surgeon. Måns has some Danish family too.

He studied music in high school in Lund. He was also part of a school choir. In 2002, he acted in the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in Malmö.

Career Highlights

2005: Starting with Idol

Måns first became famous in 2005. He joined the second season of the Swedish TV show Idol. This show was shown on TV4. He finished in fifth place overall. He was on the show for eight weeks.

2006: Dancing and Musicals

In 2006, Måns took part in the first season of Let's Dance. He danced with Maria Karlsson. They won the whole competition! They beat singer Anna Book in the final.

That same year, he also acted in the Swedish version of the musical Grease. He played the main character, Danny Zuko. Because of this, Måns signed a record deal to release his own music.

2007–2008: First Album and Melodifestivalen

In late 2006, it was announced that Måns would compete in Melodifestivalen 2007. This is Sweden's contest to choose a song for the Eurovision Song Contest. He sang the song "Cara Mia". He made it to the final and finished in third place.

"Cara Mia" was released as a single. Soon after, his first album, Stand by For..., came out. The album became number one in Sweden. It sold so well that it was certified platinum. Four songs from the album became popular singles.

In 2007, Måns also hosted Lilla Melodifestivalen on SVT. He also acted in the musical Footloose. In 2008, he went on the Diggiloo music tour.

2009: Another Melodifestivalen and Album

Måns competed in Melodifestivalen again in Melodifestivalen 2009. This time, he sang "Hope & Glory". He reached the final again. His song finished in fourth place.

In 2009, Måns released his second album, MZW. It also reached number one on the Swedish charts. He then went on a summer tour in Sweden.

2010–2011: Hosting Big Shows

In 2009, Måns was chosen to host Melodifestivalen 2010. He hosted with Dolph Lundgren and Christine Meltzer. He performed songs during the shows. He also played Romeo in the musical Romeo and Juliet.

In 2011, Måns became the host of Allsång på Skansen. This is a very popular summer singing show on SVT. He hosted the show again in 2012.

2013–2014: New Music Style

In 2013, Måns shared plans for his third album, Barcelona Sessions. He released new songs like "Broken Parts" and "Run for Your Life". The album came out in February 2014.

He hosted Allsång på Skansen again in the summer of 2013. He announced that he would be leaving the show. Måns also helped write a song for Melodifestivalen 2013. He also had a main role in the musical Spök.

2015–2016: Eurovision Victory

In Melodifestivalen 2015, Måns sang "Heroes". He won the final with a very high score. This meant he would represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

His fourth album, Perfectly Damaged, was released in June 2015. Many people thought Måns would win Eurovision. He performed in the second semifinal and came in first place. Måns then won the Eurovision 2015 final with 365 points!

After winning, he performed at music festivals in Sweden and Finland. He also went on a European tour. In early 2016, he visited Australia and performed with singer Guy Sebastian.

In May 2016, Måns co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm. He hosted with Swedish TV presenter Petra Mede. During the shows, Måns performed his winning song "Heroes" and his new song "Fire in the Rain". They also performed funny musical sketches.

2016–2018: Chameleon Album

Måns Zelmerlöw's seventh album, Chameleon, was released in December 2016. The first song from the album was "Hanging on to Nothing". A French version of the song was also released.

In 2017, Måns was a TV commentator for SVT at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. In 2018, he co-hosted the BBC show Eurovision: You Decide. He opened the show by singing songs by ABBA. His song "Happyland" from the Chameleon album was used in commercials for Kinder chocolate.

2019–2022: Time Album and TV Shows

In February 2019, Måns co-hosted BBC's Eurovision: You Decide again. On 1 March 2019, he released the song Walk With Me with Swedish singer Dotter.

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, Måns performed during the show. He sang a cover of the song "Fuego". His eighth album, Time, was released on 18 October 2019. The song One was released as a single from this album.

In late 2019, Måns performed in a Christmas show called "The Grand Wonderland Show". He was also a judge for Eurovision: Australia Decides 2020. He re-released "Walk With Me" with Australian singer Dami Im.

At Melodifestivalen 2020, Måns sang a duet with Lill Lindfors. He was also added to the Melodifestivalen Hall Of Fame. In April 2020, Måns and Morgan Sulele released the song Gamle Dager.

Måns and Per Andersson did a Christmas show together in 2020. In 2021, Måns sang the official song for the 2021 World Figure Skating Championships with Polina Gagarina. The song was called Circles and Squares.

Måns Zelmerlöw hosted the final of Melodifestivalen 2021. He also performed his song ‘Come Over Love’. Since 2021, Måns has been a regular panel member on the Swedish TV show Masked Singer Sverige.

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, Måns performed in the interval act ‘Rock The Roof’. In autumn 2022, Måns took part in the Swedish TV show "Så Mycket Bättre". In this show, singers perform each other's songs. He released four new songs from his performances.

Måns and Swedish Eurovision star Carola went on a big Christmas tour in late 2022. They performed Christmas songs and their own hits. They released a Christmas song together called "Let's Sing (It's Christmas Time)".

2023–Present: New Music and Melodifestivalen Return

In January 2023, Måns hosted Idrottsgalan, a big Swedish sports awards show. It was broadcast live from the Avicii Arena in Stockholm.

In 2023, Måns was a co-host for the weekly BBC Sounds podcast Eurovisioncast. He also commented on the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 final for Swedish TV.

On 13 October 2023, Måns and his band ‘The Agreement’ released an EP called ‘Nightcaps’. It included five songs. In winter 2023, Måns released the Christmas single "Christmas Christmas Everywhere". He also reunited with comedian Per Andersson for a new show.

In January 2024, Måns hosted the Idrottsgalan again. He hosted with Carolina Klüft.

In March 2024, Måns performed as a guest at the Melodifestivalen 2024 final. He was part of a parody boy band called Björnzone. They sang "Still the One".

In late 2024, Måns was announced as a participant in Melodifestivalen 2025. This was ten years after his "Heroes" victory. He competed with the song "Revolution" and made it to the final. He finished in second place in the final.

Personal Life

Måns Zelmerlöw has one younger sister. He enjoys playing padel, football, tennis, and golf.

On 26 December 2004, Måns and his family were on holiday in Khao Lak, Thailand. They survived the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.

Between 2008 and 2011, he was in a relationship with Swedish singer and model Marie Serneholt. In 2016, Måns started dating British actress Ciara Janson. They got engaged and welcomed their first son on 25 May 2018. The couple got married on 5 September 2019. On 9 August 2022, Måns announced they had welcomed their second son. As of 2024, Måns and Ciara live in Staffanstorp, Sweden.

On 8 July 2024, Måns opened a coffee and wine trailer called Beans and Grapes in Båstad, Sweden.
