Polina Sergeyevna Gagarina (born on March 27, 1987) is a famous Russian singer and songwriter. She became well-known when she represented Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Her song, "A Million Voices", helped her finish in second place with 303 points. This made her the first second-place singer to get more than 300 points!
In 2019, Polina also took part in a Chinese singing competition called Singer, where she made it to the finals. She was also one of the top Russian earners on social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube in 2021.

Early Life and Background
Polina Gagarina was born in Moscow, which is the capital of Russia. However, she spent most of her childhood growing up in Greece. Her mother was a ballet dancer. When Polina was six years old, in 1993, her father passed away. After this, her mother decided to move back to Russia. But they soon returned to Greece and lived in Athens.
Later, Polina moved to Saratov in Russia to live with her grandmother. Besides speaking Russian, she can also speak Greek very well.
Polina's Music Career
Starting Out: Star Factory and First Album
In 2003, Polina Gagarina joined a Russian TV show called Star Factory. It was a singing competition where new talents could become famous. She sang many songs by a producer named Maxim Fadeev. Polina won the show! However, she decided not to work with Fadeev after her victory.
After winning Star Factory, Polina was asked to join a music group called Playgirls. They even got a contract to record music, but the group eventually broke up. Polina then released her own songs like "Kolybelnaya" and "Morning". Her first album, named Poprosi u oblakov, came out in 2007.
Second Album and New Collaborations
In 2008, Polina released a song called "Komu, zachem?" which she sang with another Russian singer, Irina Dubtsova. In March 2010, her second album, O sebe, was released.
Later, in 2012, Polina started working with a famous producer named Konstantin Meladze. Together, they recorded several popular songs, including "Spektakl okonchen" (which means "The Play Is Over") and "Net" ("No").
Eurovision and 9 Album
On March 9, 2015, it was announced that Polina Gagarina would represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. She sang the song "A Million Voices". She did very well, coming in first place in her semi-final. In the Grand Final, she finished second with 303 points. This was a huge achievement, as she was the first non-winning singer to score over 300 points!
After Eurovision, Polina performed "A Million Voices" at the closing of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw in Saint Petersburg. She also performed at the closing ceremony of the 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan.
Polina also became a coach on the Russian TV show The Voice for two seasons. In September 2016, she released her third album, 9. This album became very popular and reached number one on the Russia iTunes charts.
Singer 2019 and The Voice Coach

In 2019, Polina Gagarina joined the Chinese reality singing competition Singer 2019. She was a "substitute singer" and joined in the fourth week. She was one of the few European singers to compete in the show. Polina did very well, often placing in the top three. Even when she had a muscle injury, she continued to compete and made it to the finals. In the final round, she sang a duet of "Shallow" and also performed "We Are the World" with other young singers.
In 2019, Polina returned to The Voice as a coach for its eighth season. She also became a coach for The Voice Kids for its seventh season. Her team member won the ninth season of The Voice, making her the first female coach to win the show!
In 2021, Polina worked with Måns Zelmerlöw, another Eurovision singer, to record "Circles and Squares". This song was the official song for the 2021 World Figure Skating Championships.

Polina Gagarina has sometimes taken part in public events that support the Russian government. For example, she was involved in campaigns for Vladimir Putin during presidential elections.
Because of her public support for certain government actions, Polina has faced some challenges. In March 2022, countries like Latvia and Estonia stopped her from entering their countries. Her concert in Almaty, Kazakhstan, was also cancelled in 2023 because of protests. In February 2023, Canada also added her to a list related to spreading information. Later, in June 2024, the European Union included her in a group of artists facing sanctions. This led to her music being removed from platforms like Spotify and YouTube in some areas.
Personal Life
Polina Gagarina married Russian actor Pyotr Kislov on August 25, 2007. They had a son on October 14, 2007. They later divorced on March 31, 2010.
She then married photographer Dmitry Iskhakov on September 9, 2014. They had a daughter in April 2017. Polina and Dmitry separated in 2021.
