Sant Jaume de Frontanyà is a small town in Catalonia, Spain. It is located in the Pyrenees mountains. The town is known for its peaceful atmosphere.

For a long time, Sant Jaume de Frontanyà was the smallest town in Catalonia based on its population. However, in 2018, another town called Gisclareny became even smaller.

The town is home to a beautiful old church called the Sant Jaume church. It was built in the 11th century in the Romanesque style. This church is a protected historic monument.

A Look at History

The first time Sant Jaume de Frontanyà was written about was in the year 905. This was when the original Sant Jaume Vell Church was officially opened.

A guesthouse and restaurant called Fonda Cal Marxandó has been open since 1851. Today, it is famous for its traditional Catalan food. They use ingredients from local farms.

In December 2009, Sant Jaume de Frontanyà was the second town in Catalonia to hold a special vote. This vote was about whether Catalonia should become independent. Most people in the town voted yes.

In 2005, a book about the town was published. It is called Sant Jaume de Frontanyà: Natura, Art i Pau. This means "Nature, Art and Peace." Experts from the area wrote the book.
