About Sant Llorenç de Balàfia
The old village of Sant Llorenç de Balàfia is often simply called Balàfia. This name comes from a time long ago when the village was settled by Moors.
The Historic Core
The oldest part of Balàfia is made up of seven houses grouped closely together. This group of homes also includes two special towers used for safety. There are also two trulls, which are old machines used to press olives into olive oil.
From the main road (C733), a small lane leads to these old houses. It passes by an ancient well before winding through the homes. The people who built this settlement believed in being strong together. They built their homes very close to each other for protection. These seven houses are spread out along a gentle hill that runs from north to south.
