Santana is a neighborhood, called a barrio, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 5,253 people lived there. It is a part of the larger municipality of Arecibo.
A Look at Santana's History
Santana has a long history, like many places in Puerto Rico. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This made Puerto Rico an unincorporated territory of the U.S.
In 1899, the United States government counted the people living in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, showed that 1,555 people lived in Santana barrio at that time. The number of people living in Santana has grown quite a bit since then.
