Santiago Segura Silva (born 17 July 1965) is a famous Spanish filmmaker and actor. He also worked as a television presenter, a voice actor for cartoons and video games, and even wrote comic books. He is also a big collector of original comic books.
When he was just 12 years old, Santiago started making films using a Super-8 camera. Later, with advice from director Fernando Trueba, he began making movies in a professional 35 mm format. He even funded these early films by winning money on TV game shows!
He first became well-known for his role in the 1995 movie The Day of the Beast. In this film, he played a metalhead character. His performance earned him a special award called the Goya Award for Best New Actor.

Becoming a Director and the Torrente Films
Santiago Segura found huge success with his very first movie as a director. This was the 1998 action-comedy hit Torrente, the Dumb Arm of the Law. In this film, he also starred as the main character, José Luis Torrente, a former police officer with many flaws.
The movie was very popular and won Segura another award, the Goya Award for Best New Director. Because of its success, four more Torrente movies were made:
- Torrente 2: Mission in Marbella
- Torrente 3: El protector
- Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis
- Torrente 5: Operación Eurovegas

From Dark Comedy to Family Fun

Santiago Segura's Life and Career Journey
Santiago Segura Silva was born in Madrid, Spain, on 17 July 1965. He grew up in the Carabanchel area of the city. After studying Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, he decided he wanted to be a filmmaker.
In 1989, he directed his first short film, Relatos de medianoche, with a very small budget. He then directed more professional short films, like Evilio in 1992 and Perturbado in 1993.
Working with Famous Directors
Santiago Segura often acts in movies made by well-known directors like Alex de la Iglesia and Guillermo del Toro.
In 1993, he had a small part in Alex de la Iglesia's film Acción mutante. Two years later, he starred in El día de la Bestia (The Day of the Beast), also by Alex de la Iglesia. This role made him famous across Spain.
The Torrente Phenomenon
In 1998, he directed and starred in Torrente: El brazo tonto de la ley. This movie made him a huge star. Its popularity led to the sequel Torrente 2: Misión en Marbella and even a computer game called Torrente: El juego.
Torrente 2: Misión en Marbella earned a lot of money at the Spanish box office, becoming the highest-grossing Spanish film at that time. The third film, Torrente 3: El protector, came out in 2005. Even though he said Torrente 3 would be the last, Torrente 4 was released in 2011.
In 2014, he released Torrente 5: Operación Eurovegas, which featured American actor Alec Baldwin. This film was the top movie release in Spain that year.
Acting in Hollywood Movies
Santiago Segura has also appeared in several American films. He worked with director Guillermo del Toro in movies like:

- Hellboy
- Hellboy II: The Golden Army
- Blade II
He also appeared in Perdita Durango by Alex de la Iglesia, and comedies like Jack and Jill and Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London.
Besides acting, he has lent his voice to Spanish versions of video games, such as Jack Black's character in Brütal Legend.
Becoming a Producer
Because of his success, Santiago Segura also became a film producer. He owns a company called Amiguetes Entertainment. He has helped produce films like Promedio rojo (2004) and Aquí mando yo... y punto com.
In 2018, he was a contestant on the third season of MasterChef Celebrity, a cooking TV show.
