Sara mainly creates art using photography, video, and sound. Her photos have been shown all over Canada. You could see them at galleries in Montreal and Halifax. Her art has also traveled worldwide. It has been shown in the United States, Europe, and even China.
Exploring Old Photos
Sara often uses old materials in her art. She looks at old home movies, snapshots, and vintage portraits. She explores what these old items can tell us. She also looks at what they don't show us.
The Aviary Project
One of Sara's famous works is Aviary (2013). This project includes photos, videos, and sound. In Aviary, Sara combined old photos of people with pictures of birds. These birds were either endangered or already extinct.
The photos look like old Victorian portraits. They mix family memories with nature and spiritual ideas. Sara used photos of birds like the passenger pigeon. This bird was once very common in North America. But it became extinct by 1914. This happened because of too much hunting and habitat destruction. Sara's art reminds us of what we have lost.
