What Sara Angelucci Creates

Sara Angelucci mainly creates art using photography, video, and audio. Her photo exhibits have been shown all over Canada. These include shows at the Art Gallery of York University and Le Mois de la Photo in Montreal. Her art has also been part of group shows in other countries. These include the United States, Europe, and the Pingyao Biennale in China.

Exploring Old Photos

Angelucci's art often looks at old materials like home movies and old portraits. She explores what these old items can tell us. One of her most famous works is called Aviary, created in 2013. This art project includes photos, videos, and sounds. It is now part of the collection at the Art Gallery of York University.

The Aviary Project

The Aviary project features photos that mix images of birds with old Victorian portraits. These photos show many ideas from the 1800s. They combine family photo albums with science and spiritual ideas. Sara made these pictures by putting together photos of birds that are rare or no longer exist. She combined them with old, anonymous portraits from the 1800s.

The art shows creatures that are about to become like ghosts. For example, the series includes the passenger pigeon. This bird was once very common in North America, with billions of them. But by 1914, they were all gone. This happened because of too much hunting and the destruction of their homes.

Teaching and Residencies
