Sara Gross facts for kids
Sara Gross was born on March 26, 1976, in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. She is a former professional triathlete. Even though she was born in Canada, she competed for Great Britain. Sara grew up in Kitchener, Ontario, and Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.
In 2005, she won a big race called the ITU European Long Distance Triathlon in Säter, Sweden. This race is very challenging, involving a 4-kilometer swim, a 120-kilometer bike ride, and a 30-kilometer run! In 2014, she won two more major races, the Ironman Brazil and Ironman Mont-Tremblant. Sara Gross stopped competing professionally in triathlon in 2016. Now, she works in media.
Early Life and Education
Sara Gross went to high school at Dollar Academy in Scotland. After that, she studied at Queen's University in Ontario, Canada. There, she earned both her first degree and her master's degree.
In June 2006, she earned a special advanced degree called a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. Her PhD was in ancient history and religion, and she wrote about women's history. It was while she was studying in Edinburgh that she discovered and started playing the sport of triathlon.
Helping Women in Sports
In 2014, Sara Gross helped start an organization called TriEqual. She is currently the President of this group. TriEqual is a non-profit organization (NGO) that works to make things fair for women in the sport of triathlon. Their goal is to help women's triathlon grow and ensure everyone is treated equally.
Sara also helped create Mercury Rising Triathlon (MRT) with Carrie Herman. MRT is a sports club in Victoria, British Columbia, that helps triathletes improve their performance. Sara used to work there as a triathlon coach.
Other Activities
Sara Gross was also part of the Bahrain Endurance Team. This was a professional triathlon team that was sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad al Khalifa.
Additionally, Sara hosted a podcast for WiSP Sports, which is a global network focused on women's sports.
