Becoming the First Prime Minister
Sint Maarten became its own country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on October 10, 2010. This was a big moment for the island. After the election that year, different political parties worked together.
Even though her party, the Democratic Party, won two seats, she was chosen to be the first Prime Minister. This happened because her party formed a special agreement with another party called United People.
