Early Life and Education
Sariha Moya studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. She then went on to earn a master's degree in economics. She completed this advanced degree at Carlos III University of Madrid in Spain.
Political Career
Sariha Moya has worked in government for many years. From October 2012 to August 2013, she was a planning and budget analyst. This means she helped plan how the government would spend its money. Later, from January 2016 to June 2017, she was a director. In this role, she checked how well Ecuador's National Development Plan was working.
When Daniel Noboa became President of Ecuador in 2023, he first thought about making Moya the Minister of Economy and Finance. Instead, she became the Secretary of National Planning and Development. She held this job from November 2023 until April 2025.
Acting Vice President
In November 2024, Sariha Moya took on a very important role. She became the acting Vice President of Ecuador. This happened because the original Vice President, Verónica Abad Rojas, was temporarily suspended. President Noboa chose Moya for this role on November 11, 2024. He said he picked her because she had a strong record of public service.
Moya served as acting Vice President until December 2024. At that time, a judge lifted the suspension of the original Vice President. Moya then stepped down from the acting role.
President Noboa asked Moya to be acting Vice President again in January 2025. However, Moya said she had a health problem and needed to rest. So, she did not take the job again.
Minister of Economy and Finance
In April 2025, President Noboa announced a new role for Sariha Moya. He named her the Minister of Economy and Finance. In this job, she is in charge of Ecuador's money and financial plans.
