Sariha Moya studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. She later earned a master's degree in economics. She completed this advanced degree at Carlos III University of Madrid in Spain.
Her Career in Politics
Sariha Moya has worked in public service for several years. From October 2012 to August 2013, she was a planning and budget analyst. This role was at the National Planning Secretariat, a government office.
Later, from January 2016 to June 2017, she became a director. She was in charge of checking and evaluating Ecuador's National Development Plan. This plan guides the country's growth.
When Daniel Noboa became President of Ecuador in 2023, he first thought of Moya for a different role. He considered her to be the Minister of Economy and Finance. Instead, she was appointed as the National Secretary of Planning. This job involves helping to plan the country's future.
Serving as Acting Vice President
On November 9, 2024, the Vice President, Verónica Abad Rojas, was temporarily suspended. This happened due to a disagreement about her travel plans. President Noboa then chose Sariha Moya to be the acting Vice President. She started this role two days later, on November 11.
President Noboa praised Moya's experience in public service. He also highlighted her skills in managing projects. Her suspension was later lifted, and Moya stepped down from the acting role in December 2024.
Moya was asked to be acting Vice President again in January 2025. However, she decided not to take the position. She explained that she needed rest due to a health problem. After her decision, President Noboa chose Cynthia Gellibert for the role.
