The Sarstoon River is an important river in Central America. It helps form the southern border of Belize with Guatemala. This river flows from its starting points in Guatemala all the way to the Caribbean Sea.

Where Does the Sarstoon River Flow?

The Sarstoon River begins in Guatemala. In Guatemala, people call it by its Spanish name, Río Sarstún. It flows through two areas in Guatemala: Alta Verapaz and Izabal.

After leaving Guatemala, the river enters Belize. It then flows through the Toledo District in Belize. Finally, the Sarstoon River empties into the Caribbean Sea.

Why is the Sarstoon River Important?

The main reason the Sarstoon River is important is because it acts as a natural border. It clearly marks the southern edge of Belize. This border separates Belize from its neighbor, Guatemala. Rivers often form natural boundaries between countries or regions.
