Sasha Gordon Lakovic (September 7, 1971 – April 25, 2017) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was known for being a tough player on the ice. During his career, he played for 17 different professional hockey teams. He also played for four roller hockey teams in the mid-1990s.

Sasha Lakovic was also an actor. He had a small part in the 2004 Disney movie Miracle. In the movie, he played a Russian ice hockey player named Boris Mikhailov.

People knew him by his nicknames: Hitman, Pitbull, and Sasha the Basha.

Sasha Lakovic's Hockey Journey

Sasha Lakovic started his professional hockey career in 1992. He played for many different leagues, including the Colonial Hockey League, ECHL, Central Hockey League, International Hockey League, and American Hockey League. He was known for being a very physical player.

One time, while playing for the Las Vegas Thunder, he got on his hands and knees and barked at the crowd. This happened after he won a fight against another player.

Lakovic later joined the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Calgary Flames in 1996. A year later, he was traded to the New Jersey Devils. He played 37 games in the NHL. After his time in the NHL, he played in the West Coast Hockey League and the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey. He stopped playing hockey after the 2004–05 season.

He was known as an enforcer in hockey. This means his job was to protect his teammates and be involved in fights. He often spent a lot of time in the penalty box. In his first pro season, he had 397 penalty minutes. In one season with the Las Vegas Thunder, he had 416 penalty minutes in just 49 games!

During the hockey off-season, Sasha also played roller hockey. He played for three Roller Hockey International teams from 1993 to 1997. He also played in the Major League Roller Hockey in 1998.

A Memorable Moment in the Battle of Alberta

On November 23, 1996, Sasha Lakovic was playing in his first game between the Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. This game is known as the "Battle of Alberta." During the game, a fan reached over the glass and poured a drink on the head of the Flames' assistant coach.

Sasha Lakovic immediately reacted by trying to jump over the glass to confront the fan. His teammates held him back from climbing over. Because of this incident, Lakovic was suspended for two games.

Life After the NHL

After playing in the NHL, Sasha Lakovic continued to play hockey in other leagues. These included the American Hockey League, West Coast Hockey League, and the Quebec Semi-Pro Hockey League. He officially left hockey after the 2005 season.

In his later years, he lived in West Kelowna, British Columbia.

Acting in Miracle

Sasha Lakovic had a role in the movie Miracle. This movie is based on the true story of the "Miracle on Ice." This was when the United States men's hockey team won against the powerful Soviet hockey team at the 1980 Winter Olympics. In the movie, Sasha played Boris Mikhailov, who was the captain of the Soviet team.

His Final Years

On October 12, 2016, Sasha Lakovic shared some sad news. He announced that he had been diagnosed with brain cancer that could not be treated. Doctors told him he had only about three months to live.

Sasha Lakovic passed away on April 25, 2017, at the age of 45.

Sasha's Family Life

Sasha Lakovic was born into a family from Montenegro and Serbia. His parents, Spasoje and Marsha, moved from Podgorica. Sasha had four children and three brothers named Veso Greg, Zoran, and Milosh.
