Sasquatch is a thrilling drop tower ride at Great Escape amusement park in Queensbury, New York. It's a special kind of ride called a 'combo tower' made by S&S Worldwide. This exciting ride first opened at Great Escape on May 10, 2009.

Before coming to Great Escape, this ride had a different home! It was at Six Flags New Orleans and was known by two other names: Bayou Blaster and Sonic Slam. After a big storm called Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, the park closed, and the ride was moved to its new home. The name 'Sasquatch' comes from a famous mysterious creature, also known as Bigfoot.

The Journey of Sasquatch

This amazing ride first opened in the year 2000. Back then, it was called Bayou Blaster and Sonic Slam. It was part of a brand new park named Jazzland.

A few years later, in 2002, the company Six Flags took over the park. They changed its name to Six Flags New Orleans in 2003.

From New Orleans to New York

In August 2005, a very powerful storm called Hurricane Katrina caused a lot of damage. Six Flags New Orleans was badly flooded and had to close. Because of this, Six Flags decided to move some of their rides to other parks.

For example, a roller coaster called Batman: The Ride was moved in 2007. It went to Six Flags Fiesta Texas and was renamed Goliath. Our ride, the Bayou Blaster and Sonic Slam, was taken apart in 2008.

It was then moved all the way to Great Escape! There, it was fixed up, given a fresh coat of paint, and got its new name: Sasquatch. This exciting ride officially opened on May 10, 2009. It took the place of an older ride called Rainbow, which had closed in 2007.

What to Expect on Sasquatch

Sasquatch is a unique ride because it has two different towers. Each tower offers a slightly different experience, but both are super exciting! These towers are often called the Launch Tower and the Drop Tower.

The Drop Tower Experience

On the Drop Tower, riders are slowly lifted high into the sky. Then, get ready for a thrilling surprise! You are suddenly dropped very fast, almost all the way down. After that, you're lifted up a bit, then dropped quickly again. This exciting up-and-down motion happens a few times before the ride gently comes to an end.

The Launch Tower Experience

The Launch Tower is a different kind of thrill! Riders are shot upwards over 150 feet (46 m) into the air in just three seconds. It's a super-fast climb! After reaching the top, you don't drop as quickly as on the other tower. Instead, you come down a bit slower. Then, you're brought back up at the same fast speed. This exciting sequence continues until your ride finishes.
