Saint Saturius of Soria (also known as San Saturio in Spanish) lived a long time ago, from 493 to 568. He was a special kind of saint called a hermit from Spain. Hermits are people who choose to live alone, often in quiet places, to focus on prayer and a simple life.
Saturius was born in a city called Soria. Christian stories say that he decided to live a life of quiet prayer and being by himself. He took good care of his parents until they passed away. After that, Saturius gave away everything he owned to people who needed help. When he was 40 years old, he moved into a cave on a hill. This hill is known as Santa Ana or Peñalba. He lived there for the rest of his life, choosing a very simple and strict way of living. He spent his days in prayer and self-discipline.

A Quiet Life of Prayer
Saint Saturius chose to live a very simple life. He wanted to spend his time thinking about God and praying. He lived in a cave, far away from busy towns. This helped him focus on his spiritual journey.
He gave away all his money and things to the poor. This showed how much he cared for others. His life was an example of dedication and kindness.
His Friend Prudentius
As Saint Saturius became known for his wisdom, people started to seek his advice. One person who came to him was Prudentius of Armentia. Prudentius wanted to learn from Saturius. He became Saturius's close friend and companion.
Prudentius stayed with Saint Saturius for the last seven years of his life. After Saturius passed away, Prudentius buried him. Later, Prudentius himself became a bishop in a city called Tarazona.
Honoring Saint Saturius
Saint Saturius is very important to the city of Soria. In 1628, he was officially named the patron saint of Soria. This means he is considered a special protector of the city. The Catholic Church officially recognized him as a saint in 1743.
Even today, many people visit the cave where Saint Saturius lived. It is a place of pilgrimage, where people go to pray and remember him. There is also a beautiful building called the Hermitage of San Saturio near Soria. A famous Spanish writer, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, even mentioned this hermitage in one of his stories, El Rayo de Luna.
