Saulcy is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Jura canton, which is like a state or region. Saulcy is part of the Delémont district.
A Look Back in Time
Saulcy was first mentioned in official records way back in 1327. Back then, it was known as Sacis.
Where is Saulcy?
Saulcy covers an area of about 7.89 square kilometers (about 3 square miles). A big part of this land is used for farming. About 46.7% of the area is farmland.
Almost half of Saulcy, about 50.6%, is covered by forests. These forests are an important part of the local environment. A small part, about 3.3%, has buildings and roads.
Most of the built-up area is for houses and other buildings. Roads and other ways to travel make up the rest. In the forests, a large portion is dense woods. Some areas also have orchards or small groups of trees.
For farming, some land is used for growing crops. Other parts are open pastures where animals can graze. There are also alpine pastures, which are high mountain grasslands.
The municipality of Saulcy is in the Delémont district. It includes the main village of Saulcy and a smaller settlement called La Racine. A hamlet is a very small village.
Some nearby towns are thinking about joining together in the future. These towns include Bassecourt, Boécourt, Courfaivre, Glovelier, Saulcy, Soulce, and Undervelier. If they merge, they would form a new municipality called Haute-Sorne.
