Sayers is a small place in Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it is not officially a city or town with its own local government. Sayers is part of the larger San Antonio area.

History of Sayers

Sayers was started after the Civil War. A post office opened there in 1885. By 1896, about 50 people lived in Sayers. There were also two general stores and a church. Later, the post office from nearby Adkins moved to Sayers. The whole postal area then became known as Adkins.

In 1940, Sayers lost half its population. It had only three businesses left. All of these businesses closed after World War II. Today, Sayers has several churches and restaurants. You can also find a small grocery store and a gas station. There is also a cemetery in the community.

Where is Sayers Located?

Sayers is found where two roads meet. These roads are U.S. Route 87 and FM 1628. It is about 13 miles (21 km) southeast of Downtown San Antonio. Sayers is in the eastern part of Bexar County.

Schools in Sayers

In 1896, Sayers had its own school. Today, students in the community go to schools in the East Central Independent School District. There is also a private school called Salem-Sayers Baptist School that serves the area.

The movie Sugarland Express was filmed in and around Sayers. This film is based on a true story. The real events happened to people who lived in Sayers.
