Scalasaig (pronounced Skal-a-saig) is a small village on the east coast of Colonsay, an island in Scotland. It's part of the Argyll and Bute area. Scalasaig is the most important village on Colonsay. It's also the island's only port. This means everyone who comes to Colonsay by ferry arrives right here!
In Scalasaig, you'll find many useful places. There's a shop and a post office, which are together in one building. You can also see the local church. For adults, there's even a small brewery that makes beer. The village also has a doctor's office, a community hall, a cafe, and a hotel with a bar.
What's in a Name? The History of Scalasaig
The name "Scalasaig" comes from an old Norse language. It means "Skali's bay." This tells us that Vikings or other Norse people might have visited or settled here a long time ago.
