Schönwies is a small town, also called a municipality, in the Landeck area of Tyrol, Austria. It is located about 8 kilometers (5 miles) northeast of the city of Landeck. It is also about 7 kilometers (4 miles) west of the city of Imst.
The main way people in Schönwies earn money is by mining. They dig up a type of rock called limestone to make ballast stone. This stone is used for things like building roads and railway tracks.
