Scheemda is a charming village located in the Netherlands. It is part of the Oldambt area in the Groningen province. About 2,445 people live in Scheemda.
Until 2010, Scheemda was its own separate municipality. A municipality is like a local government area. In 2010, Scheemda joined with two other places, Reiderland and Winschoten, to form the larger municipality of Oldambt.
Scheemda's Past
Before 2010, the municipality of Scheemda included several smaller towns and villages. These included Heiligerlee, Midwolda, Nieuw-Scheemda, Nieuwolda, Oostwold, Scheemda itself, 't Waar, and Westerlee. On January 1, 2010, all these places became part of the new Oldambt municipality. This change helped bring communities together under one local government.
