Schell City is a small city located in the northeastern part of Vernon County, Missouri, United States. In 2010, the city had a population of 249 people. By 2020, the population was 228.
History of Schell City
Schell City was first planned and settled in 1871. It was named after Augustus Schell, who was one of the original owners of the land. He was from New York. A post office has been open in Schell City since 1871, helping people send and receive mail for over 150 years.
Geography and Location
Schell City is situated where two Missouri roads meet: Route C and Route AA. It is about 1.5 miles south of the Osage River.
Right next to the eastern side of Schell City is the Schell-Osage Conservation Area. This is a special place for nature and wildlife. The city of Nevada is located about 17 miles southwest of Schell City.
