Schongau is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It's located in the Canton of Lucerne, within the Hochdorf district.

Schongau is found in the beautiful Seetal valley. The town covers an area of about 12.5 square kilometers (4.8 square miles).

Most of the land in Schongau is used for farming. About 70% is farmland, and 26% is covered by forests. A small part, about 3.5%, has buildings and roads. The rest is made up of rivers.

People and Population

Schongau had a population of 848 people in 2007. Only a small number, about 3.1%, were from other countries. The population has grown by 13.1% in the last ten years.

Most people in Schongau speak German, which is about 97.3% of the population. Albanian is the second most common language, spoken by 1.1% of residents. Serbo-Croatian is spoken by 0.5% of the people.
