Bettwil is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Muri district. It is part of the canton of Aargau in Switzerland.

History of Bettwil
People have lived in the Bettwil area for a very long time. Ancient Roman items have been found here. The name Petiwilare was first used for Bettwil in the year 924.
In the past, the taxes from the village were shared. They went to Einsiedeln Abbey, a monastery, and a hospital in Bremgarten. For over 200 years, from 1200 to 1412, the village was owned by the Lords of Heidegg. It was even used to pay a ransom once!
Bettwil's current borders were set in 1415. This was when it became part of the Swiss Confederation. A village law from 1547 gave the people the right to choose their local leaders. Bettwil has had a village school since 1770.
Until 1799, Bettwil was part of a larger church area. Then, it became its own independent church community. An old chapel, built in 1496, was replaced by the Church of St. Joseph in 1789.
Farming is still important in Bettwil. In 1990, about 35% of the workers were farmers. In 1981, more land became available, which helped the population grow. A bus service started in 1988. By 1990, many people traveled outside Bettwil for work.
