Schwendau (say it like shven-dau) is a small town and village in Austria. It is located in the Schwaz District in the state of Tyrol.
Schwendau was first mentioned way back in the year 1200. Its original name was "Swentowe". This name means "clearing of a pasture". The village's emblem even shows an axe. This axe reminds us of the original meaning of its name.
Geography of Schwendau
Schwendau covers a wide area with many smaller places inside it. It includes parts of the nearby village of Hippach. The area stretches from the Ziller River all the way up to the Hoarbergjoch pass. A pass is a low point between mountains.
Schwendau and Hippach are very close. They share many things, like local services.
