What is the History of Science Hill?
Science Hill got its name from a geologist named William J. Bobbitt. He visited the area to study and collect local rocks. Later, in 1874, William B. Gragg officially applied the name to the local post office. The city was officially established in 1882.

How to Get Around Science Hill?
Several roads pass through or near Science Hill. Kentucky Route 635 runs through the city. Kentucky Route 1247 is just east of the downtown area. Also, U.S. Route 27 passes along the city's eastern edge. To the west of Science Hill, you'll find the Big Clifty Creek Valley.

Science Hill Independent School
The Science Hill Independent School started in 1895. It has moved several times to make room for more students. This school teaches students from pre-school all the way up to 8th grade. Because it's an independent school, students who finish 8th grade here can choose to attend high school in either the county or Somerset City. Even though the school has about 500 students, it often ranks among the best primary and elementary schools in Kentucky.
