Movement "Science to Youth" |
The Science to Youth Movement (called "Pokret Nauku mladima" in Bosnian) was an organization that helped young people learn about science. Before 1992, it was known as the Alliance of Young Researchers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This movement was started by professors from the University of Sarajevo's Faculty of Sciences. They wanted to encourage students to explore and love science.
What the Movement Did
The Science to Youth Movement organized many exciting activities for young people. These activities were set up through groups of young researchers in different towns. They held big yearly events across B&H. They also had events at the national level in the former country of Yugoslavia.
Science Competitions
Most of the people who took part were high school students. They joined competitions to show off their knowledge in natural sciences and mathematical sciences. Students could pick any science topic they liked for their projects.
Their work was presented like a special research paper. They then defended their ideas to professors from the Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Biotechnical and Biomedical Sciences, and experts from the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The best projects each year won prizes, usually in the form of books.
Summer Science Camps
The Movement also held fun learning camps, often called "summer schools." These camps usually lasted for two weeks or a month. They were held in cool historical places like Tjentište, Boračko jezero, Treskavica – Vučja Luka, and Jezero (near Jajce). These camps were a great way for students to learn and explore outside of school.
Many dedicated people from the Faculty of Sciences who helped run the Movement also received special awards for their efforts.
