Music Career
Starting with Creed
Scott Stapp helped start the American rock band Creed. He was their first lead singer. He met his future bandmate Mark Tremonti in high school in Orlando, Florida. They met again at Florida State University. They became good friends because they both loved music.
Stapp formed Creed with Tremonti in 1994. Brian Marshall joined as the bassist and Scott Phillips became the drummer.
The band released their first album, My Own Prison, in 1997. It was very popular and sold over six million copies. Four songs from the album became hits: "My Own Prison", "Torn", "What's This Life For", and "One". All four songs reached the top three on Billboard's rock charts.
Their next album, Human Clay, came out in 1999. It was an even bigger success. It sold over 11 million copies!
In 2001, Creed released another popular album called Weathered. The band toured a lot to support this album. However, after a concert in Chicago, the band decided to take a break.
In 2004, Creed announced they had stopped playing together for a while. They said there were some disagreements among the members. Creed then released a Greatest Hits album in November 2004.
Creed Reunites
In 2009, Creed announced they were back together! Their fourth album, Full Circle, was released in October 2009. Creed toured all over the world in 2009 and 2010 to support the album.
In March 2012, Stapp and his bandmates got together to practice for their "2 Nights" tour. On this tour, they played their first two albums, My Own Prison and Human Clay, completely. They planned to record new songs, but it didn't happen. Stapp mentioned in 2013 that a lot of work was done on a new album in 2011 and 2012. However, the project was stopped, and Stapp wasn't sure why. He also hinted that he and Mark Tremonti had some disagreements again.
In 2014, Stapp said the band was still together.
On July 17, 2023, Creed announced they would reunite for their first shows in 12 years! They plan to headline a rock cruise called "Summer of '99" in April 2024.
