Scotty Hopson, whose full name is Brian Scott Hopson, is an American professional basketball player. He was born on August 8, 1989. Scotty recently played for the Converge FiberXers in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball for the Tennessee Volunteers.

Scotty's Early Basketball Days
High School Success
Scotty Hopson was a highly-rated basketball player in high school. Experts at Rivals.com thought he was one of the best. In 2008, he was ranked as the second-best shooting guard in the country. He was also the fifth-best player overall.
Playing for Tennessee Volunteers
After high school, Scotty played college basketball for the University of Tennessee. He played for three seasons, from 2008 to 2011. His coach there was Bruce Pearl.
Scotty's Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in Europe: Greece and Israel
Scotty Hopson was not chosen in the 2011 NBA draft. But he still started his professional career.
- In August 2011, he joined Kolossos Rodou in the Greek Basket League. He played there for the 2011–12 season.
- In July 2012, Scotty moved to Israel. He signed with Hapoel Eilat in the Israeli Basketball Super League. During the 2012–13 season, he played 33 games. He averaged 17.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Playing in Turkey: Anadolu Efes
In July 2013, Scotty signed with Anadolu Efes. This team is part of the Turkish Basketball League. He played for them during the 2013–14 season. His last game with Anadolu Efes was on January 13, 2014.
Time in the NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers
On March 31, 2014, Scotty got a chance to play in the NBA. He signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also spent some time with the Canton Charge. This team is in the NBA Development League.
Scotty was traded a few times in 2014. He went from the Cavaliers to the Charlotte Hornets. Then he moved to the New Orleans Pelicans. After that, he was traded to the Houston Rockets. Finally, he went to the Sacramento Kings. The Kings later decided to let him go on September 24, 2014.
NBA G League and Spain: Sioux Falls Skyforce and Laboral Kutxa
- On December 7, 2014, Scotty joined the Sioux Falls Skyforce. This is another team in the NBA Development League.
- On February 24, 2015, Scotty had an amazing game. He scored 52 points for the Skyforce. He also made 21 field goals, setting two team records.
- In April 2015, Scotty went to Spain. He signed with Laboral Kutxa for the rest of the 2014–15 season.
Playing in China: Foshan Long Lions
In September 2015, Scotty signed with the Foshan Long Lions in China. He played seven games for them in November 2015 before leaving the team.
Return to Europe: Croatia and Israel
- On July 24, 2016, Scotty signed with Cedevita Zagreb in Croatia.
- On February 11, 2017, he moved back to Israel. He joined Ironi Nahariya for the rest of the 2016–17 season.
Back to Turkey: Galatasaray
On July 20, 2017, Scotty signed with Galatasaray in Turkey. He played for them during the 2017–18 season. He left the team in January 2018.
Another NBA Chance: Dallas Mavericks
On February 26, 2018, Scotty signed a 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks. He played in one game for them. After his contract ended, he was not offered another one.
Oklahoma City Blue and Thunder
- On October 10, 2018, Scotty signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was waived two days later. Then, he joined the Thunder's G League team, the Oklahoma City Blue.
- On February 14, 2019, he signed another 10-day contract with the Thunder. He did not play in any games during this time. He returned to the Blue after the contract finished.
- In February 2020, Scotty rejoined the Oklahoma City Blue.
- On October 14, 2021, he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder again. He was waived the next day. He then rejoined the Oklahoma City Blue on October 26.
- On December 27, 2021, he signed another 10-day contract with the Thunder. He rejoined the Blue on January 6, 2022.
- On November 3, 2022, Scotty was on the opening night roster for the Oklahoma City Blue for the 2022–23 season.
More International Play: Israel, New Zealand, and Lebanon
- On April 18, 2019, Scotty went back to Israel. He signed with Hapoel Holon. He got a foot injury in his first game and missed the rest of the season.
- On July 31, 2019, Scotty signed with the New Zealand Breakers. He played for them during the 2019–20 NBL season. He hurt his knee early in the season but came back to play in December. He was named to the All-NBL Second Team.
- On November 30, 2020, Scotty signed with Melbourne United for the 2020–21 NBL season. He helped Melbourne win the NBL championship in June 2021.
- On April 15, 2022, Scotty signed with Dynamo Lebanon in the Lebanese Basketball League.
Recent Teams: Cleveland Charge, Maine Celtics, and Converge FiberXers
- On January 30, 2024, Scotty joined the Cleveland Charge. He was waived by them on February 8, 2024.
- On February 10, 2024, Scotty joined the Maine Celtics.
- On July 18, 2024, Scotty signed with the Converge FiberXers. This team is in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He joined them as an "import" player for the 2024 PBA Governors' Cup.
