Brian Scott "Scotty" Hopson, born on August 8, 1989, is an American professional basketball player. He has played for many teams around the world. Scotty is known for his skills as a shooting guard and small forward. He last played for the Converge FiberXers in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the Tennessee Volunteers.

Early Life and College Career
Scotty Hopson was a highly-rated young basketball player. In 2008, experts at Rivals.com called him a "five-star recruit." This means he was one of the best high school players in the country. He was ranked as the second-best shooting guard and the fifth-best player overall.
After high school, Scotty played college basketball for the University of Tennessee. He played for three seasons, from 2008 to 2011, under coach Bruce Pearl.
Professional Basketball Journey
Scotty Hopson did not get picked in the 2011 NBA draft. However, he started his professional career playing for teams all over the world.
Playing in Greece and Israel
- Kolossos Rodou (2011–2012): In August 2011, Scotty signed with Kolossos Rodou in Greece. This was his first professional team.
- Hapoel Eilat (2012–2013): The next year, in July 2012, he moved to Israel to play for Hapoel Eilat. He played very well there, averaging 17.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Moving to Turkey and the NBA
- Anadolu Efes (2013–2014): In July 2013, Scotty joined Anadolu Efes in Turkey. He played with them until January 2014.
- Cleveland Cavaliers (2014): On March 31, 2014, Scotty got a chance to play in the NBA! He signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. During this time, he also played a few games for the Canton Charge, which is a team linked to the Cavaliers in the NBA G League.
- Traded Multiple Times (2014): After playing for the Cavaliers, Scotty was traded to several different NBA teams in a short period. He was traded to the Charlotte Hornets, then the New Orleans Pelicans, and then the Houston Rockets. Finally, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings, but they later decided to let him go.
Back to the G League and Europe
- Sioux Falls Skyforce (2014–2015): In December 2014, Scotty joined the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA G League. He had an amazing game in February 2015, scoring 52 points! This set a new record for the team.
- Laboral Kutxa (2015): In April 2015, he went to Spain to play for Laboral Kutxa.
- Foshan Long Lions (2015): Later in 2015, Scotty played a few games in China for the Foshan Long Lions.
More International Play
- Cedevita (2016–2017): From 2016 to 2017, Scotty played for Cedevita Zagreb in Croatia.
- Ironi Nahariya (2017): In February 2017, he returned to Israel to play for Ironi Nahariya.
- Galatasaray (2017–2018): In July 2017, Scotty signed with Galatasaray in Turkey.
Another NBA Chance and G League Returns
- Dallas Mavericks (2018): Scotty got another chance in the NBA in February 2018, signing a short contract with the Dallas Mavericks. He played one game for them.
- Oklahoma City Blue (2018–2019): He then spent time with the Oklahoma City Blue, the G League team connected to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He even signed a short contract with the Thunder in February 2019, but did not play in a game for them during that time.
Playing in Australia and Lebanon
- Hapoel Holon (2019): In April 2019, Scotty went back to Israel to play for Hapoel Holon. Unfortunately, he got a foot injury in his first game.
- New Zealand Breakers (2019–2020): From 2019 to 2020, he played for the New Zealand Breakers. Even with a knee injury early in the season, he played well enough to be named to the All-NBL Second Team.
- Melbourne United (2020–2021): Scotty joined Melbourne United in November 2020. He helped his team win the NBL championship in June 2021!
- Oklahoma City Thunder / Blue (2021–2022): He had another brief time with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Oklahoma City Blue in 2021 and 2022.
- Dynamo Lebanon (2022): In April 2022, Scotty signed with Dynamo Lebanon in the Lebanese Basketball League.
Recent Teams
- Oklahoma City Blue (2022–2023): He returned to the Oklahoma City Blue for another season.
- Cleveland Charge (2024): In January 2024, Scotty joined the Cleveland Charge, but left the team soon after.
