Scranton is a small, unofficial community located in the Amargosa Valley and Amargosa Desert. These areas are found in Inyo County, in eastern California. The community was given its name after the city of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Scranton is located in a desert part of California. It sits at an elevation of 2,234 feet (681 meters) above sea level. This means it is quite high up compared to the ocean.
Past Connections
This small community was once connected by the Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad line. This railroad was important for moving goods and people in the past. Scranton is about 13 miles (21 kilometers) northeast of Ryan. Ryan used to be a busy mining town in the Amargosa Mountains.
