The Scuderia Lancia was the official racing team for the Lancia car company. It was started in 1952 by Gianni Lancia, whose father founded the Lancia brand. The team quickly became famous in motorsports, especially in rallying. They competed in big races like the Carrera Panamericana, the Targa Florio, and the Mille Miglia.
Lancia also tried Formula 1 racing in 1954 and 1955, but they didn't have much success there. However, the team found its stride in the World Endurance Championship, winning three world titles between 1979 and 1981. They were incredibly successful in rallying, earning eleven constructors' titles and four drivers' titles from 1974 to 1992. Lancia stopped its official involvement in motor racing at the end of 1991.

Rallying Success
Before the official World Rally Championship began, Lancia won the last International Championship for Manufacturers title in 1972 with their Fulvia car. In the WRC, Lancia is still known as one of the most successful teams ever. They stopped competing at the end of the 1993 season.
Lancia won many constructors' titles with different cars. These included the Stratos (in 1974, 1975, and 1976), the 037 (in 1983), and the Delta. The Delta was especially amazing, winning six titles in a row from 1987 to 1992. This made the Delta the most successful car model in rallying history. Overall, Lancia won a total of 10 championships.
Famous drivers like Juha Kankkunen and Miki Biasion each won two drivers' titles while driving the Delta. Other great drivers who won WRC races with Lancia include Markku Alén, Didier Auriol, Sandro Munari, Bernard Darniche, Walter Röhrl, Björn Waldegård, and Henri Toivonen.
Sadly, Lancia's rallying history also includes some tragic events. In 1985, Italian driver Attilio Bettega died during the Tour de Corse rally while driving a Lancia 037. Exactly one year later, Finnish driver Henri Toivonen, a favorite to win the championship, also died at the same rally in a Lancia Delta S4. These sad events led to the end of the powerful Group B rallying cars.
Martini Racing Partnership
Martini Racing joined forces with Lancia in 1982, just as they had done with sports cars the year before. They sponsored the brand new Group B Lancia 037. Drivers like Attilio Bettega and Markku Alén raced for the team.
The partnership between Lancia and Martini Racing in the World Rally Championship was one of the longest in the sport. It lasted until the end of the 1992 season. Together, they won many races and titles with different cars, including the Group B Delta S4 and the Group A Delta Integrale. Drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Bruno Saby, Massimo Biasion, and Didier Auriol achieved great success.
Martini Lancia cars won the WRC Drivers' title with Kankkunen in 1987 and 1991. Biasion won it in 1988 and 1989. They also won the Constructors' title with the 037 in 1983, and then six times in a row with the Group A Delta from 1987 to 1992. In 1993, Martini continued a smaller sponsorship program, focusing on the Italian Rally Championship with driver Dario Cerrato.
