Mary Sean Young (born November 20, 1959) is an American actress. She is well-known for her roles in science fiction movies. However, she has also acted in many other types of films.
Some of Young's first roles were in the movie Jane Austen in Manhattan (1980) and the comedy Stripes (1981). Stripes was very popular. She became famous for playing Rachael in Blade Runner (1982). She also played Chani in Dune (1984). Later, she starred in No Way Out (1987) and Wall Street (1987). She also had main roles in the comedies Fatal Instinct (1993) and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994).

Early Life and Training
Sean Young was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Her father, Donald Young, Jr., was a television producer and journalist. Her mother, Lee Guthrie, was a writer and public relations executive.
Young went to Cleveland Heights High School in Ohio. She also studied at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. Later, she attended the School of American Ballet in New York City. Before she became an actress, Young worked as a model and a ballet dancer.
Acting Career
Sean Young started her movie career in Jane Austen in Manhattan (1980). After that, she had a role in Stripes (1981). She then played the main female character, Rachael, with Harrison Ford in the famous science fiction movie Blade Runner (1982).
On television, Young played the main female role in Under the Biltmore Clock (1986). This show was based on a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The next year, she had a small part in the movie Wall Street (1987). She played the wife of Michael Douglas's character. Her role was planned to be bigger, but it was made smaller.
Key Roles and Challenges
One of Young's important roles was in No Way Out (1987). She played the girlfriend of a powerful politician. She also appeared in Dune (1984) as Chani, who was Paul Atreides's love interest. Other movies include Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend (1985) and Fatal Instinct (1993).
Young was supposed to play Vicki Vale in the movie Batman (1989). However, she broke her arm during rehearsals and was replaced by another actress. Later, she tried to get the role of Catwoman in Batman Returns (1992). She even made her own Catwoman costume and appeared on a TV show to ask for the part.
Young was also cast as Tess Trueheart in Dick Tracy (1990). But she was replaced because the director felt she didn't look like a mother. In 1994, she played the main bad guy in the comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. She also played Helen Hyde in Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde (1995).
Later Career and Appearances
During the 1990s, Young lived in Arizona. She continued to act, but her career was less busy. She returned to her role as Rachael in the Blade Runner video game in 1997. She also spent four months in Russia filming a TV show called Yesenin (2005). In it, she played the famous dancer Isadora Duncan.
In 2008, Young was on the TV show Gone Country 2. She competed in a celebrity demolition derby and finished in fourth place against professional drivers. In 2010, she joined the TV show The Young and the Restless as Meggie McClain. She stayed on the show until February 2011.
In 2010, she was a contestant on the ABC show Skating with the Stars. She was the first celebrity to be eliminated from the competition. In 2011, Young appeared on Late Show with David Letterman. She talked about looking for more movie roles after raising her two sons.
In 2013, Young played Dr. Lucien in Star Trek: Renegades. This was a fan-made project for a new Star Trek series. Several actors from past Star Trek shows were in it. In 2017, Young played Rachael again in Blade Runner 2049. She appeared using old footage and a new computer-generated version of her character. She also helped coach the actress who played the new version of Rachael.
Personal Life
In 1990, Sean Young married Robert Lujan, who is an actor and composer. They have two sons together. They divorced in 2002 but got married again in 2011.
