Music Journey
Starting Out (2000–2012)
From 2000 to 2002, Sebalter played the bass guitar in a Swiss hard rock band called The Stalkers. This band played cover songs from groups like Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin.
From 2002 to 2012, Sebalter played the fiddle in a Swiss folk rock band named The Vad Vuc. With this band, he released three albums and traveled a lot for concerts. He decided to leave the band in 2012 to start his own solo music career.
While he was studying at university in 2005, Sebastiano also helped host a TV show for young people called Le vostre vacanze (which means Your Holiday). This show was on the Swiss channel TSI. He also co-hosted two special New Year's shows in 2006 and 2007.
Eurovision and First Album (2013–2015)
In November 2013, Sebalter's song "Hunter of Stars" was chosen as one of the songs from the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland to compete in the Swiss national selection for Eurovision. The song passed an expert review later that month, moving it forward to the national final. In December, the song was released as a single.
Sebalter and his band performed "Hunter of Stars" on the national final show Die Große Entscheidungsshow on February 1, 2014. They won the competition, which meant Sebalter would represent Switzerland at Eurovision.
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, he performed "Hunter of Stars" during the second semi-final on May 8, 2014. He successfully made it to the grand final on May 10, 2014. He finished 13th with 64 points. This was Switzerland's best result since 2005.
In July 2014, he released another single called "Saturday." In January 2015, he released his first studio album, Day of Glory. This album included his popular songs "Hunter of Stars" and "Saturday." The album reached number 9 on the Swiss Albums Chart.
In 2015, Sebalter announced he would take a break from music to continue working as a lawyer. However, he still performs around Switzerland and Italy with his guitarist Mattia Bordignon and banjo player Rocco Casella.
Later Music and TV Work (2016–Present)
Sebalter was part of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm. He announced the votes from the Swiss jury during the final show. His second studio album, called Awakening, was released on January 20, 2017. In 2017, he performed his song "Weeping Willow" on the show ESC 2017 – Die Entscheidungsshow.
Since the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, he has been a commentator for the Swiss-Italian TV channel RSI during the grand final, working alongside Clarissa Tami.
In 2018, it was announced that Sebalter would try to return to Eurovision. He competed for the chance to represent Switzerland in the 2019 contest with his song "Carry the Light." However, in 2019, the Swiss broadcaster SRF chose Luca Hänni as their representative instead.
