Playing for Clubs

Sebastián Fernández was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. He began his professional football journey in 2004 with the team Miramar Misiones.
In 2007, he joined Defensor Sporting Club. With this team, he helped win the Apertura 2007 championship and the Copa Uruguaya in 2008. These were important wins for his early career.
Playing in Argentina
In 2008, Sebastián moved to Argentina to play for Club Atlético Banfield. He was a very important player for the team. He helped them win the Apertura 2009 championship. This was the first time Banfield had ever won the Argentine championship in their history!
On February 17, 2010, Fernández scored two goals in a Copa Libertadores match against Deportivo Cuenca. His goals helped his team win 4–1.
Playing in Spain
In July 2010, Sebastián Fernández moved to Spain. He signed a four-year contract with La Liga team Málaga CF. His transfer cost the Spanish team €3.6 million.
He quickly showed his value by scoring a goal in his very first game for Málaga. This was against Valencia CF on August 28, 2010. He ended the season with 7 goals, making him the team's second-highest scorer.
For the 2011–12 season, Málaga signed another famous player, Ruud van Nistelrooy. This meant Sebastián often came on as a substitute. On November 21, he scored his first goal of that season in a 3–1 win against Racing.
Exactly one year later, on November 21, 2012, he scored his first Champions League group stage goal. This was in a 2–2 draw against FC Zenit Saint Petersburg.
In the summer of 2013, Fernández joined Rayo Vallecano. However, he got injured early in the season, which meant he missed most of the games. On April 26, 2014, he scored his first goal in over two years. It was a header in Rayo's 3–0 win against Granada.
Returning to Uruguay
On August 1, 2014, Sebastián Fernández returned to his home country, Uruguay. He joined Nacional. He played for Nacional until the end of 2020.
In April 2021, he moved to Liverpool Montevideo. Then, on January 5, 2022, Fernández signed a one-year deal with Danubio, where he plays now.
Playing for His Country
Sebastián Fernández also played for the Uruguay national team. He made his first appearance on May 24, 2006, in a friendly game against Romania.
In May 2010, he was chosen to be part of the team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. This is a huge honor for any football player.
On July 27, 2010, he was selected to play in a friendly match against Angola in Lisboa.
Fernández scored his first goal for Uruguay in a friendly match against China PR. He has played 14 times for Uruguay and scored 2 goals.
