Sebastián Rodríguez Veloso was born on February 27, 1957. He is a famous Paralympic swimmer from Spain. He has competed in four Paralympic Games and won many medals. In total, he has earned fifteen medals: eight gold, four silver, and three bronze. Sebastián is known for his amazing achievements in the pool.

Sebastián Rodríguez: A Champion Swimmer

Sebastián Rodríguez is an S5 swimmer. This means he competes in a specific category for swimmers with physical impairments. He has won over 20 medals throughout his swimming career. He trains in Vigo, a city in Spain.

Training and Competitions

In 2010, Sebastián took part in the Tenerife International Open swimming event. He also competed in the 2010 Adapted Swimming World Championship in the Netherlands. Before this big competition, he trained with the national team. This training was part of the Paralympic High Performance Program (HARP Program).

He also competed at the 2011 IPC European Swimming Championships in Berlin, Germany. There, he won a gold medal. He nearly won another gold in the 4x50 meter freestyle relay. His teammates were Richard Oribe, Alvaro Bayona, and Jordi Gordillo. However, their team was disqualified due to a small mistake at the finish. Sebastián also competed at the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships.

Paralympic Journey: Sydney 2000

Sebastián Rodríguez first competed at the Paralympics in the 2000 Sydney Games. He had lost his legs due to a past event, which qualified him to compete in the Paralympics. At these Games, he won five gold medals. He also set four new world records!

Three of his gold medals were in individual freestyle events in the S5 classification. He set world records in the 50 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters races. He also won gold medals with the Spanish relay teams. These were in the 4×50 meter freestyle 20 pts and the 4×50 meter medley 20 pts races. His team even set a new world record in the freestyle relay.

Athens 2004: More Gold Medals

At the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece, Sebastián continued his success. He won three more gold medals. He successfully defended his titles in the 50 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters freestyle events. In each of these races, he set new world records!

Beijing 2008 and London 2012

In 2008, Sebastián competed in his third Paralympics. This was at the Beijing Games in China. He won four medals there. He earned silver medals in the 200 meter freestyle and the 4×50 meter freestyle 20 pts relay. He also won bronze medals in the 50 meter freestyle and the 4×50 meter medley relay 20 pts.

His fourth time at the Paralympics was at the 2012 Games in London, United Kingdom. He won three more medals in London. He took home silver medals in the 50 meter freestyle and 200 meter freestyle. He also earned a bronze medal in the 100 meter freestyle.
