Sebastian Mila's Club Career Highlights

Starting His Football Journey

Sebastian Mila was born in Koszalin, Poland. He began playing football for local teams there, like Gwardia Koszalin and Bałtyk Koszalin. When he was 16, he moved to Gdańsk. There, he joined the youth teams of Lechia Gdańsk. At that time, the club was known as Lechia-Polonia Gdańsk because two teams had joined together.

Playing for Lechia Gdańsk

Mila quickly moved up to the main team at Lechia Gdańsk in the 1999–2000 season. He played his first professional game in March 2000. In his first season, he played 12 games and scored two goals. The next season, he played 22 games and scored two more goals. However, the team was moved down to a lower league. This led to the two merged clubs splitting up again, and many players, including Mila, left the team.

Time at Orlen Płock

In the summer of 2001, Mila joined Orlen Płock, another team in the second division. He played well in the first half of the season, appearing in 15 league games. His good performances caught the attention of a top-division team, Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski. Mila then moved to this new team during the winter break. Orlen Płock ended up finishing second that season and was promoted to the top league.

Success with Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski

Moving to Dyskobolia brought early success for Mila. In his first full season, Dyskobolia finished second in the Ekstraklasa, which meant they would play in European competitions. Mila played in every game of their European journey in the UEFA Cup. They beat teams like FK Atlantas and Hertha Berlin.

Then, they faced Manchester City. After a 0–0 draw at home, Mila scored a fantastic free-kick against famous goalkeeper David Seaman in the away game. This goal helped Dyskobolia win and move forward in the competition. They then played against Bordeaux but were knocked out. The club finished fourth in the league that season. The next season, Dyskobolia finished second in the Ekstraklasa again and also won the Polish Cup.

Playing in Austria for Austria Vienna

During the winter break of the 2004–05 season, Mila moved to Austria Vienna. In his first half-season there, he played 13 games. Austria Vienna finished third in the league and won the Austrian Cup. In his first full season, he helped Austria win the Austrian Bundesliga and another Austrian Cup.

By the 2006–07 season, Austria Vienna faced financial challenges. Many players left the club. After playing 10 games, Mila also left in January. Austria Vienna struggled that season, finishing in a lower position.

Time in Norway and Loan to ŁKS Łódź

In January 2007, Mila joined Vålerenga in Norway. He played 14 games for them during the season. In February 2008, Mila returned to Poland. He joined ŁKS Łódź on loan for the rest of the 2007–08 season. Mila played 12 games and helped the team avoid being moved down to a lower league.

Mila then joined Śląsk Wrocław, a team that had just been promoted to the Ekstraklasa. He quickly became a very important player for them. He helped Śląsk win the Ekstraklasa Cup in the 2008–09 season. The team also finished in an impressive sixth place in the league.

The next season, Śląsk finished ninth. Mila then became the team captain. As captain, he led the team to finish second in the 2010–11 season. The 2011–12 season was a very special one for Śląsk. They almost made it to the UEFA Europa League group stage but lost in the playoffs. In the league, Mila played 27 out of 30 games. Śląsk Wrocław won the league, finishing just one point ahead of the second-place team.

The 2012–13 season was Mila's best for his own performance. He led the team to win the Polish Super Cup, beating Legia Warsaw. They also finished third in the Ekstraklasa. Mila played 40 games that season and scored 10 goals. The next season was tougher for Śląsk, and they finished ninth. By the winter break of the 2014–15 season, Mila had played every game. Because the team was having financial problems, they decided to sell Mila. During his six and a half seasons at Śląsk Wrocław, he won three trophies. He played 216 games and scored 39 goals for the club.

Returning to Lechia Gdańsk

During his time at Śląsk Wrocław, Mila often wore a Lechia Gdańsk sweatband. He always said he loved the team he supported since he was young. He wanted to play for them again. In January 2015, he got his wish and returned to Lechia after 13 years.

Mila immediately became the captain of Lechia. He played 16 games in his first half-season back. In his first full season, he played 29 games and scored 2 goals. His last professional goal was against Ruch Chorzów. In the 2016–17 season, he played 8 games, and in 2017–18, he played just one. His very last professional game for Lechia Gdańsk was on August 5, 2017. He came on as a substitute and played for the final two minutes.
