Sebastian Zouberbuhler (born around c. 1710 – died January 31, 1773) was an important person in the early history of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He was one of the people who helped to start this town.

Sebastian Zouberbuhler's Life Story

Sebastian Zouberbuhler was likely born in Switzerland. When he was a young man in the 1730s, he worked for a merchant named Samuel Waldo. Mr. Waldo bought and sold large areas of land in places like South Carolina and Massachusetts. This included land that is now part of the state of Maine.

Later, Sebastian Zouberbuhler became a soldier. He fought in the 2nd Massachusetts Regiment during a big battle called the Siege of Louisbourg (1745) in 1745. After the British took control of Louisbourg, he worked there as a trader. Around 1750, he moved to Halifax.

In 1753, Governor Peregrine Thomas Hopson sent Sebastian Zouberbuhler and John Creighton to Lunenburg. They helped to establish this new settlement.

Sebastian Zouberbuhler also became involved in politics. From 1759 to 1763, he represented Lunenburg Township in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. This was like being a member of parliament for the area. On October 19, 1763, he was chosen to be part of the Nova Scotia Council. This was a group of important advisors to the governor.

Besides his political work, he was also involved in the local timber trade, which meant cutting and selling wood. He also bought and sold land. He served as a local magistrate, which meant he was like a judge who handled local legal matters.

Sebastian Zouberbuhler passed away in Lunenburg in 1773, probably from a health condition called gout. He was buried in the crypt (an underground room) of St. John's Anglican Church (Lunenburg).
