Sebastiano Nela (born 13 March 1961) is a former Italian football player. He played as a defender. He was often an attacking full-back because he was fast and strong. He could also cross the ball well with his left foot.
Nela was a very flexible player. He could play anywhere in the defense. This included the left or right side, or even in the middle. Sometimes, he even played as a central midfielder when he was younger.
He started his club career with Genoa. Later, he moved to Roma. He played most of his career there. With Roma, he won one Serie A title and three Coppa Italia titles. He stopped playing football in 1994 after two seasons with Napoli. Nela also played for the Italy national football team five times. He was part of the team for the 1986 FIFA World Cup and the 1984 Olympics. He is now a member of the A.S. Roma Hall of Fame.

Playing for Clubs
Sebastiano Nela was a strong and hard-working defender. He began his football journey with the club Genoa. In 1981, he joined Roma, a top team in Serie A.
His first game for Roma was on 13 September 1981. It was a 0–0 draw against Avellino. Nela played 28 games for Roma when they won the Scudetto in 1983. The Scudetto is the Italian league championship title.
In 1987, Nela had a bad knee injury. He could not play football for almost a year. An Italian singer, Antonello Venditti, wrote a song for him. The song was called "Correndo correndo". It was on his 1988 album, In questo mondo di ladri.
Nela left Roma in 1992. He joined Napoli. By then, he had won the Scudetto and three Italian Cups with Roma. He stopped playing after the 1993–94 season. Overall, he played 315 games in Serie A.
Playing for Italy
Nela's good games for Roma helped him get called up to the Italian national team. He played his first game for Italy on 22 May 1984. This match was against West Germany.
He played a total of five games for Italy between 1984 and 1987. Nela was part of the Italian team for the 1986 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not play in any matches. Italy was knocked out in the round of 16 at that tournament.
He also played three games at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Nela helped Italy finish in fourth place in the competition.
After Football
After he stopped playing football, Sebastiano Nela became a commentator. He has worked for different TV channels. He currently works for Mediaset Premium.
