Secret Mountain Fort Awesome is a fun animated TV show created by Peter Browngardt for Cartoon Network. It first aired in 2011. The show is about five silly monsters who live in a special mountain fort. They love to cause funny trouble for people.
The idea for the show came from some characters in another animated short by Peter Browngardt called Uncle Grandpa. The music for the show was made by Mike Conte from the heavy metal band Early Man.
Secret Mountain Fort Awesome first showed a sneak peek on August 1, 2011. It officially started on September 26, 2011. The show was liked by many, and its designers, Robertryan Cory and Chris Tsirgiotis, even won awards for their amazing animation work at the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The original Uncle Grandpa short later became its own full TV series. Peter Browngardt felt that the Uncle Grandpa show was a bit lighter and more kid-friendly. The last time Secret Mountain Fort Awesome was shown on TV was February 17, 2012. The rest of the episodes were released online through iTunes in March 2012.
Meet the Characters
The show is about a group of monsters called the Disgustoids. They were kicked out of normal society because they act wild and look a bit strange. They live in a special, living mountain fort that is their home. From this fort, they create all sorts of crazy and funny situations for the public.
Let's meet the main characters:
- Festro (voiced by Peter Browngardt): He is the leader of the group. Festro is a purple monster with tusks and wears underwear. He loves to party and will do anything to help his friends, even if his help isn't always what they need.
- Dingle (also voiced by Peter Browngardt): Dingle is a skinny, blue monster who looks a bit like a dog. He's the group's loyal pet and only the other Disgustoids can understand what he says.
- Slog (voiced by Steve Little): Slog is a furry monster who looks like a proboscis monkey. He is very loyal to the group but doesn't always think things through. The more dangerous something is, the more likely he is to try it!
- Gweelok (voiced by Paul Rugg): Gweelok is a green, round monster with acne. He is very bossy and loves technology.
- The Fart (voiced by Pat Duke): This monster is giant and made of buttocks. He makes farting sounds when touched. Despite his unusual appearance, The Fart is the most sensitive and sensible member of the group.

Spin-off Show: Uncle Grandpa
After Secret Mountain Fort Awesome finished, the original Uncle Grandpa short by Peter Browngardt was turned into a full TV series. This new show, called Uncle Grandpa, is about a character who is everyone's uncle and grandfather at the same time!
Peter Browngardt explained that while Uncle Grandpa would keep some of the fun ideas from Secret Mountain Fort Awesome, it would be a more lighthearted show for kids. He wanted the new series to have more variety in its music and be able to explore happier themes, even though it could still get a bit dark and wild sometimes.
