Sector is a small, quiet place in Hampshire County, West Virginia. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Sector is located right next to the South Branch Potomac River. You can find it on Fleming-Sector Road. Across the river is another community called Glebe.

A Look at Sector's History

Sector became a more active place in the early 1900s. This happened because it had two important things: a post office and a train station. These helped connect the community to other places.

The Train Station: Glebe Station

The train station in Sector was part of the South Branch Valley Railroad. It was known as Glebe Station. This name came from its close location to the community of Glebe, which was just across the river.

The Old Suspension Bridge

For a while, a special bridge connected Sector and Glebe. It was a suspension bridge, which is a type of bridge held up by cables. This bridge was on Fleming-Sector Road.

However, this bridge faced a big challenge: floods. Serious floods repeatedly damaged and destroyed it. The last time it was destroyed was in the late 1930s or early 1940s. After that, the bridge was never rebuilt.
