Sedalia is a small community located in Collin County, Texas, in the United States. It is part of the larger Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area. In the year 2000, about 25 people lived in Sedalia.
History of Sedalia
Sedalia has always been an important place for local farmers to trade their goods. A post office opened in Sedalia on January 15, 1889. It helped people send and receive mail until 1903. After that, mail for Sedalia was sent through Van Alstyne.
In 1896, Sedalia was home to about 100 people. The community had two churches and two general stores. There was also a gristmill, which grinds grain into flour. A cotton gin was also present, which separates cotton fibers from their seeds. Since 1940, the number of people living in Sedalia has stayed small, between 20 and 25 residents.
Where is Sedalia Located?
Sedalia is found in the far northeastern part of Collin County. It is very close to the border of Grayson County. The community is about 2 miles (3.2 km) northwest of Westminster. Sedalia used to be on a road called FM 3093. This road was later combined with another road, Farm to Market Road 3133.
