Sedan is a small, quiet place in Hampshire County, West Virginia. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
About Sedan
Sedan is nestled in the beautiful North River Valley. You can find it along Delray Road, which is also known as West Virginia Route 29. It sits between two other communities, Hanging Rock and Delray.
How Sedan Got Its Name
Sedan was named after a famous battle called the Battle of Sedan. This battle happened on September 1, 1870, during a big war known as the Franco-Prussian War. The community was given this name not long after the battle took place.
History of the Post Office
For many years, Sedan had its own post office. It opened in 1871, which was just a year after the Battle of Sedan. The post office served the community for a long time, helping people send and receive mail. It finally closed its doors in 1935.
