Selwyn George Carrol (October 31, 1928 – December 21, 2010) was an American politician and public servant. He worked to help people in his community. Carrol served as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 1972 to 1974. He was also a social worker and a teacher.

Early Life and Military Service
Selwyn Carrol was born in Altamonte Springs, Florida, on October 31, 1928. He grew up in Jacksonville and went to Stanton College Preparatory School.
Around 1958, Carrol moved to Alaska. He was serving in the United States Army at the time. He reached the rank of Master Sergeant.
Career Helping Others
In 1966, Carrol settled in Fairbanks, Alaska. He became a social worker in 1967. He worked for the Alaska Department of Public Welfare. Social workers help people solve problems in their lives.
Later, he joined the Alaska Department of Corrections. He was a supervisor at a youth detention center. This center helped young people who were in trouble.
In 1970, Carrol started working for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. He was an attendance officer, helping students attend school regularly. He also worked as a middle school teacher.
Political Journey in Alaska
Selwyn Carrol became interested in politics. He joined the Republican Party. In 1970, he ran for a seat in the Alaska House of Representatives. He won his party's nomination but did not win the main election.
Serving in the Alaska House
Carrol ran again in 1972 and was elected. He became a state representative. He was the first African American Republican to serve in the Alaska Legislature.
During his time in office, Carrol led the House Community and Regional Affairs Committee. He also served on the Labor and Management Committee. These committees worked on important issues for Alaskans.
In 1974, Carrol tried to win a seat in the Alaska Senate. He won his party's primary election. However, he lost a close race in the general election. He ran for the state house again in 1976 but was not re-elected.
Later Life and Legacy
In 1977, Selwyn Carrol moved to Hampton County, South Carolina. He lived there for the rest of his life. He continued his public service as the county auditor. This job involves managing the county's financial records.
Selwyn Carrol passed away on December 21, 2010. He was buried at the Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort. He is remembered for his dedication to public service and his work helping communities.
