Arsénio Rodrigues Jardim (born July 1, 1949 – died July 4, 2020), known to many as Seninho, was a talented Portuguese professional football player. He was famous for playing as a right winger, which means he played on the side of the field, often helping to score goals. Seninho's Early Life and Career
Seninho was born in Sá da Bandeira, which is now called Lubango, in Angola. He started his football journey in the youth teams of Porto, one of Portugal's biggest football clubs.
Playing for FC Porto
Seninho joined Porto's main team in 1969. He quickly became a key player, known for his speed and skill on the right wing. He played for Porto for nine seasons, from 1969 to 1978. During this time, he played in 121 games and scored 24 goals. His time at Porto was a very important part of his career.
Moving to the USA: New York Cosmos
In 1978, Seninho made a big move across the Atlantic Ocean. He joined the New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League (NASL). This league was very popular at the time and had many famous international players. Seninho played 58 games for the Cosmos and scored 11 goals.
Playing for Chicago Sting
After his time with the New York Cosmos, Seninho moved to another American team. In 1983, he joined the Chicago Sting (NASL). He continued to show his skills as a winger, playing in 47 games and scoring 14 goals for the Sting. He played for them until 1984, before ending his professional career.
International Career with Portugal
Seninho also had the honor of representing his home country, Portugal. He played four games for the national team between 1976 and 1978. He even scored one goal for Portugal during his international appearances. Playing for your country is a special achievement for any footballer.
