Serapio Calderón Lasso de la Vega (born September 14, 1843 – died April 3, 1922) was a Peruvian politician. He served as the temporary leader of Peru, known as the Interim President, from May 7, 1904, to September 24, 1904. He stepped in to lead the country during a special time.
A Leader for Peru
Serapio Calderón was born in a place called Paucartambo, which is in the Cusco Region of Peru. This happened in September 1843.
Becoming President
In 1903, Serapio Calderón was chosen to be the second vice president alongside Manuel Candamo, who was the president. There was also a first vice president named Lino Alarco, but sadly, he passed away before he could start his job.
Because the first vice president was no longer there, Serapio Calderón had to step up. When President Manuel Candamo died on May 7, 1904, Calderón became the temporary president.
His Time in Office
As the temporary president, Serapio Calderón's main job was to organize new elections for the country. He made sure that these elections happened fairly.
José Pardo y Barreda from the Civilista Party won these elections. The Civilista Party was a political group in Peru at that time. Serapio Calderón led the country until September 24, 1904. After that, José Pardo y Barreda took over as the new president.
Serapio Calderón passed away in Cusco, Peru, in April 1922.
