Biography
Early Life and Music Start
Sergio George grew up in New York City. His parents were from Puerto Rico. He went to the City College of New York. Sergio started his music career in 1979 with bands like Conjunto Caché. He played piano and performed live in the 1980s.
In 1987, Sergio became a musical director for albums. He played piano for Grupo Star's album "Grupo Star." He even lived in Colombia for a year. He was also part of Grupo Baruc and their 1988 album "Reeencuentro."
Becoming a Top Producer
Sergio George became a very popular salsa producer in 1988. This happened when he produced Tito Nieves's first album, "The Classic." He also produced Johnny & Ray's album "Mascarada" that same year.
From 1988 to 1995, Sergio was a key person at RMM Records & Video. This was a Latin music label in New York. He arranged, produced, and directed many recordings. He worked with artists such as Jose Alberto 'El Canario', Johnny Rivera, and La India. In 1991, he produced "100th LP" for Tito Puente. He also produced Marc Anthony's first two albums, "Otra Nota" and "Todo A Su Tiempo." In 1993, he produced the very successful album "Combinacion Perfecta."
New Ventures and Success
In 1995, Sergio George started his own company, Sir George Entertainment. He also worked with Sony Discos. During this time, he formed the group DLG. He also helped Víctor Manuelle become a major salsa artist.
By 1997, Sergio was producing for WEA Latina. He worked with artists like Frankie Negron and Charlie Cruz. In 2004, he and George Zamora created SGZ Entertainment in Miami, Florida. This company focused on urban music artists. In 2006, SGZ Entertainment joined La Calle Records.
Award-Winning Work
Sergio George won the Latin Grammy Award for Producer of the Year in 2008. This was for his work on several songs and albums. These included songs by Ricardo Arjona and Marc Anthony, and the album El Cantante by Marc Anthony.
In 2009, Sergio founded Top Stop Music. The first album released was Ciclos by Luis Enrique. This album became very popular and won two Latin Grammy awards. He also signed Prince Royce, whose first album came out in 2010. La India also joined Top Stop Music in late 2009. Her song "Estupida" quickly became number one on the US Billboard Tropical Songs chart.
Sergio received his second Latin Grammy for Producer of the Year in 2010. This was for his work on songs like "Corazón Sin Cara" by Prince Royce and "Estúpida" by La India.
In 2013, Sergio released "Sergio George Presents Salsa Giants." This album sold very well around the world. At the 14th Latin Grammy Awards, Sergio won three Latin Grammys. He won Producer of the Year again. He also won for producing Marc Anthony's "Vivir Mi Vida," which was Record of the Year. And "Sergio George Presents Salsa Giants" won Best Salsa Album.
In 2023, Sergio George released a book called “¡ATACA SERGIO! INQUEBRANTABLE” on Amazon. In this book, he shares stories from his life and his 43-year career in music.
