How Sevastopol Got Started
Sevastopol was first planned out in 1855. When a place is "platting," it means someone drew up a map showing where streets and lots would go.
Where the Name Comes From
The name Sevastopol remembers a famous battle called the Siege of Sevastopol (1854–55). This was a big event that happened in a war far away.
The Old Post Office
A post office opened in Sevastopol in 1858. People could send and receive mail there. However, it closed down in 1902.
Where is Sevastopol?
Sevastopol is in the very southwest corner of Kosciusko County. It is about five miles from Mentone. It is also seven miles from Burket. The county seat, which is the main town for the county, is Warsaw. Sevastopol is about 15 miles from Warsaw.
