Rupert "Sevn" Thomas Jr. (born on July 7, 1991) is a talented Canadian music producer, songwriter, and singer. He is known for creating many popular songs for famous artists. Some of his big hits include Rihanna's "Work" and Drake's "Pop Style". He also worked on "Chicago Freestyle" for Drake, "Wake Up" for Travis Scott, and "Heartbreak Anniversary" for Giveon.

When he was younger, Sevn Thomas sang under the name Suga Prince. He also released his own music, like an instrumental album called Hidden Hand in 2014.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Rupert Thomas Jr. grew up in Scarborough, a part of Toronto, Ontario. His parents were from Jamaica and loved music. They even had their own "sound systems," which are like big music setups for parties. They often hosted fun gatherings in their basement.

His uncle, Rappa Robert, is a Dancehall artist. He would take young Rupert to music studios in Jamaica. This helped Rupert see how music was made from a young age.

When he was about 10 years old, Rupert started making his own beats. He used a special music machine called a Korg Triton. In 2002, he released a song called "Too Young for Love." He sang on it as Suga Prince, and the music video even featured a young Ayesha Curry!

Around that time, he signed with a record company called Sony BMG. However, he later paused his music career when the company changed. During this time, he met another producer named Boi-1da. Boi-1da later became his mentor and a frequent partner in making music.

Music Career Highlights

Sevn Thomas started getting more involved in music production and songwriting in 2013. He worked on songs for artists like Kelly Rowland and Skeme. In 2014, he helped produce a song for Mobb Deep before releasing his own instrumental album, Hidden Hand.

In 2015 and 2016, Sevn Thomas became very successful. He worked with Boi-1da and others on several songs that became huge hits. These included Drake's "10 Bands" and "Pop Style." One of his biggest achievements was co-producing Rihanna's song "Work," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart! Billboard magazine even said he was one of the producers who helped bring dancehall music back to the charts.

He continued to produce many popular songs. In 2018, he worked on Travis Scott's album Astroworld, producing songs like "Wake Up." He also produced tracks for Nicki Minaj's album Queen and Lil Wayne's Tha Carter V.

More recently, in 2020, he co-produced Drake's "Chicago Freestyle" and Giveon's hit "Heartbreak Anniversary". In 2023, he also worked on "SKITZO" for Travis Scott's album UTOPIA. Sevn Thomas continues to be a major force behind the scenes in the music world, helping create the sounds you hear from many top artists.
