Giveon Dezmann Evans (born in 1995), known simply as Giveon, is an American R&B singer. He became famous for his deep voice and soulful songs.
Giveon gained a lot of attention in 2020. This happened when he worked with the famous rapper Drake on the song "Chicago Freestyle". That same year, Giveon released two shorter music collections called EPs. These were Take Time and When It's All Said and Done. Take Time was even nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
His song "Heartbreak Anniversary" became very popular. It reached the Top 40 in the US and sold enough copies to be certified Platinum. In 2021, Giveon was featured on Justin Bieber's hit song "Peaches" with Daniel Caesar. This song went straight to number one on global music charts. In 2022, Giveon released his first full album, Give or Take.

Early Life and Music Start
Giveon Dezmann Evans was born in Long Beach, California. He grew up with his two brothers and his single mother. From a young age, he loved to sing. He often sang at birthday parties.
His mother encouraged his love for music. She also protected him and his brothers as they grew up. Giveon went to Long Beach Polytechnic High School. When he was 18, he joined a music program at the Grammy Museum. There, he discovered and loved the music of Frank Sinatra. Sinatra's strong voice really inspired him.
Giveon also listened to R&B and soul music. He was inspired by artists like Drake and Barry White. He loved jazz music from the 1960s. He wanted to bring that classic sound into modern music.
Music Career
Starting Out (2018–2019)
Giveon released his first song, "Garden Kisses," in August 2018. Soon after, a Canadian music producer named Sevn Thomas discovered him. Thomas found Giveon's music on SoundCloud. He then signed Giveon to his record label, Not So Fast, and also to Epic Records.
After signing, Giveon began performing his own songs live. One of these songs was "Like I Want You." In November 2019, he officially released "Like I Want You." He then opened shows for singer Snoh Aalegra on her tour in Europe and North America.
Big Hits and EPs (2019–Present)
While on tour with Snoh Aalegra, Giveon often sang freestyles. He only had two songs released at the time. Giveon's manager sent a video of his freestyle performance from Chicago to Drake. This led to their collaboration on the song "Chicago Freestyle."
In February 2020, Giveon was featured on Drake's song "Chicago Freestyle." At first, it was only on SoundCloud and YouTube. In March 2020, Giveon released his first EP, Take Time. An EP is like a mini-album with a few songs. This EP reached the top of Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart. Music critics praised Take Time, calling it "breathtaking."
In May 2020, "Chicago Freestyle" was released for streaming everywhere. It became a Top 15 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In September 2020, Giveon announced his second EP, When It's All Said and Done. It included the song "Stuck on You." This EP debuted on the Billboard 200 chart.
As Giveon became more famous, his songs "Stuck on You" and "Like I Want You" started appearing on Billboard R&B charts. "Like I Want You" was even certified gold. In 2021, Take Time was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Giveon also performed "Stuck on You" on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which was his first TV performance.
In February 2021, "Heartbreak Anniversary" and "Like I Want You" both entered the Billboard Hot 100. On March 12, he released a collection album called When It's All Said and Done... Take Time. This album combined his first two EPs and added a new song. Just a week later, he was featured on Justin Bieber's song "Peaches."
In September 2022, Giveon recorded a song called "Time" for the movie Amsterdam. Drake helped write this song.
Music Style
Giveon is known for his deep, smooth singing voice, which is called a baritone. He gets ideas from jazz music from the 1960s and 1970s. He has said that Frank Sinatra, Frank Ocean, Drake, Adele, and Sampha are some of his biggest inspirations.
