Shade is a small place in southern Ohio, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Lodi Township in Athens County. The Story of Shade
Shade got its start a long time ago. A post office opened there in 1837. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office stayed open for many years, until 1996. In 1880, about 175 people lived in Shade. The community's name comes from the Middle Branch of the Shade River, which is about two miles away.
Community Life in Shade
The people of Shade have a special place called The Shade Community Center Association (SCCA). This center used to be the old Shade school. Now, it's a non-profit group that helps the community in many ways.
The SCCA offers lots of fun and helpful services:

- People can enjoy potluck lunches together on Thursdays.
- There are musical jam sessions for those who love music.
- It also has a Senior Citizens Center for older adults.
Shade still looks a lot like it did in the late 1950s. The old store moved to a new building, and new homes have been built in the countryside. It's only a few minutes away from the city of Athens.
