Shadwell DLR station is a train station in East London. It's part of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) system. The DLR is a special light rail network that serves the Docklands area of London.
This station is located between two main DLR stations to the west: Bank and Tower Gateway. To the east, the next station is Limehouse.
About Shadwell DLR Station
Shadwell DLR station is built on a raised structure called a viaduct. This means the tracks and station are high above the ground. This viaduct is also used by other trains, like the c2c line that goes towards Essex.
Station Design and Access
The station has a single platform in the middle, known as an island platform. This means trains stop on both sides of the platform. To get to the platform, you can use stairs or a passenger lift. The main entrance is on Watney Street.
When Did Shadwell DLR Station Open?
Shadwell DLR station first opened its doors on 31 August 1987. It was one of the very first stations to open when the Docklands Light Railway system began operating.
A few years later, in 1991, a new part of the DLR called the "Bank extension" was built. This new section connects to the main DLR line just west of Shadwell station. This helped more people travel easily into the heart of London.
